Developing Therapeutic Skills Level 2 Ofqual Award

Helping professionals deepen their understanding and develop skills to support children and young people’s emotional and mental health needs.

Outline

This course involves a level of personal work, participants will be invited to explore their own personal processes in relation to the course topics so that they are able to recognise their own potential triggers and defences, leading to greater empathy with and understanding of the children and young people that they might support.

This programme will be delivered over two full days. The course carries 16 registered hours CPD and is also completed as a qualification. Accreditation and certification will be issued as an Ascentis Award which carries a Level 2 Nationally recognised qualification with 6 credits available. Ofqual Accreditation Number: 601/8326/3

Description

This course is aimed at practitioners across both Primary and Secondary phases; In particular: any staff working on a daily basis with children or young people who, are experiencing any form of Social Emotional Mental Health need/behaviour need.

The course is structured over 4 modules which are covered over the two days.
  • Understanding the Wider Therapeutic Framework – This module focuses on understanding the purpose of a therapeutic approach, reflects upon a variety of therapeutic roles, and outlines the therapeutic models of Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Person Centred approaches. It also considers the importance of ethics when working therapeutically.

  • Basic Therapeutic Skills - This practical module focuses on Carl Rogers three ‘core concepts' of communication and connection through empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard, participants also practice the ‘language of empathy’, through focusing on their listening & communication skills.

  • The Formation of Identity & Personality -In this module, participants will explore the key factors that impact the psychosocial formation of identity & personality in children and adolescents, the impact of adverse childhood experiences on brain development and behaviour and the importance of resilience in promoting mental health.

  • Self-Regulation & Distress Management - In this module, participants will explore how self-regulation is crucial to healthy brain development & understand the link between an integrated brain and secure attachments.

There are a maximum of 16 places available on this course all places must be booked through Buy Doncaster. Once a place is booked you will be emailed personally regarding the course joining instructions and other information needed to register for the accreditation.
Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, however delegates will need to bring their own lunch.
